Craig Gillespie (born 1 September 1967) is an Australian film, television, and commercial director, best known for his films Lars and the Real Girl, the Fright Night remake, and I, Tonya.
I do tend to have characters that I guess are in some way loners or dealing with obstacles that they have to confront that ultimately make them a better person in a way.
Everybody is talking and everybody is trying to block things out, but eventually you just yell, "Action!," everybody starts moving, the camera starts going, and you get a take.
I love when there's an obstacle to overcome, even for the audience to actually empathize with that character. I find that interesting, and then, how to work around that and make them relatable. That's something that you have to dig into the moments and into the performances and see how to play those situations that make them relatable.
