Not every heiress is famous. Or fun. There are a lot of boring heiresses out there.
I probably watch movies more than I actually listen to music, I think.
I always put a little bit of restrictions on myself, and I only do it for my creativity.
I want the music to stand out a little bit more than many other bands do. I still have some stuff where I don't use the high hat, and I don't use any crash cymbals. It just makes for an interesting sound because you don't really notice it when it's not there, but if it was there, you would definitely hear it.
Once I have something that I think I can work with, then I'll go in and make it on the computer. I'll try to recapture the sound that I had in my head when I was thinking about it. That's usually how I do it.
I don't know if people come to the shows of the Raveonetteswith any certain expectations. I think that we have fans who know that we're not. . . hugely entertaining in any way. We don't put on a show, so to speak. We basically just play the music the way it's supposed to be heard - very loud, in a packed club, and in a good setting. People can stand still with their eyes closed, or they can dance. They can do whatever they want. We don't care.
I don't really care about labels that much. I wouldn't really call our music retro. There are influences of things from the past, which there is in everything. I think we're quite a modern band, actually. We don't record with old equipment. We use computers and programmed drums. We don't use any guitar amplifiers. We're very much a modern band in the sense that we love computers and what they can do to music. I guess we're just good at a different sound.
I'm not saying we're going to win. I am saying rebellion becomes a way to protect your own dignity. Corporations are, theologically speaking, institutions of death. They commodify everything - the natural world, human beings - that they exploit until exhaustion or collapse. They know no limits.
See God in every person, place, and thing, and all will be well in your world.
We need each other, deeper than anyone ever dares to admit even to themselves. I think it is a genetic imperative that we huddle together and hold on to each other. There is no question in my mind that there is nothing else in life, really, than friendship.
We should honor the Savior's declaration to "be of good cheer. " (Matthew 14:27) Indeed, it seems to me we may be more guilty of breaking that commandment than almost any other!
