The way you discover your gifts is really by serving not by searching.
There are story-room sessions where you think about the big picture, like a novel, but once you have certain things in place, you have to treat each episode like an hour of TV, and think that maybe this will be the only episode that anyone will ever watch. You want to have some sort of beginning, middle, and end to the episode, even if you have storylines that are carrying over. You still want it to feel like a cohesive hour of entertainment. And you can't think about both at the same time.
Script for an actor is like a bible. You carry it with you, you read it over and over, you go to your passages.
You don't get to know anybody in a movie until after it's over. You work less together in a film than you do onstage.
They (the corporations) are counting on your patriotism to distract you from their plunder. They're counting on you to stand at attention with your hand over your heart, pledging allegiance to the flag, while they pick your pocket.
That's what Samuel Johnson said: "Read over your compositions, and wherever you meet with a passage which you think particularly fine, strike it out. "
Would you who judge of the lawfulness or unlawfulness of pleasure, take this rule; whatever weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, or takes off the relish of spiritual things; in short; whatever increases the strength and authority of your body over your mind, that is sin to you; however innocent it may be in itself.
It gives us more flexibility, so we can do more, but it also creates the expectation of the instant response. It can take away your sense of control over your time.
The only victory that counts is the one over yourself.
Resist discouragement by speaking His Word over your future. Keep standing. Keep hoping; keep believing because He is working behind the scenes. He's going to accelerate your times and lead you into the life of victory He has for you.
May you discover your own special abilities and contribute them toward a better world.
You always want to be a little in over your head and be challenged to get better.
When it's over you look up: the world looks the same but you are somehow different and that feeling lingers for days.
I can see in your eyes that there’s no seam of untapped joy left in you. The best of life has come and gone. Those days when sudden epiphanies swept over you, and you had visions of the rightness of all things and of your place amongst them; they’re history. You’re in a darker place now.
You cannot cast a vision that has not cast a spell over you.
Acquire a government over your ideas, that they may come down when they are called, and depart when they are bidden.
People call me a theater actor, but I'm just an actor. But I tell my friends all the time - especially a lot that do theater and haven't done a lot of TVfilm - that you have so much more control over your work onstage. When you go onstage, you can really see the difference between people who can really do it, and people who are just kind of pretending to do it. There is no editor, there's nothing that's going to stop the actor from showing what they can do unless it's not a well-written role.
Don't mourn over your bad decisions. Just start overcoming them with good ones.
Believe me, if I start getting sick, you’ll be the first to know since I’m sure it’ll be all over you. (Alix)
When the ball is on the one-yard line, never risk a fumble. Carry it over yourself.
