I think I can safely call 2012 average. Overall, it was a stronger year for nonfiction than fiction - a situation that would've surprised me back in January, when I was looking forward to big new novels from several authors I really love.
Don't believe everything you hear today
You know someone for a while and then one day a hole opens underneath them, and they fall out of your world.
Fantasy was always only a reality waiting to be switched on.
I have nothing to say for myself, only that I have always tried to make this earth a little bit better
Innocence ain’t all it’s cracked up to be, you know. Innocent little kids rip the wings off flies, because they don’t know any better. That’s innocence
Terror is the desire to save your own ass, but horror is rooted in sympathy.
Nor does the idea of a moral order asserting itself against attack or want of conformity answer in full to our feelings regarding the tragic character.
The conversation of kisses. Subtle, engrossing, fearless, transforming.
There surely is a being who presides over the universe; and who, with infinite wisdom and power, has reduced the jarring elementsinto just order and proportion. Let speculative reasoners dispute, how far this beneficent being extends his care, and whether he prolongs our existence beyond the grave, in order to bestow on virtue its just reward, and render it fully triumphant.
Truly there is nothing in the world so blessed or so sweet as the heritage of children.
