Any protester knows that the only way activism works is to get the people on your side.
Not everybody has to sing the melody.
I feel that my whole life is a contribution.
Songwriters can’t explain. You get an idea and you don’t know where it’s come from. And if you’re lucky, you have a pencil or pen and can write it down.
I think the world is going to be saved by millions of small things.
Did you ever want something really bad and then when you finally got it all you could do was stand there and grin at it?
There is something about participating; it is almost my religion. If the world is still here in 100 years, people will know the importance of participating, not just being spectators. Millions of small groups around the world, that don't necessarily all agree with one another, are made up of people who are not just sitting back waiting for someone to do things for them. No one can prove anything, but of course if I didn't believe it had some kind of power, I wouldn't be trying to do it.
I became very aware of what I was used to relying on, almost tricks. It's funny because I could feel myself creating a formula and sticking with it and I just told myself, 'That's not me, that's not really how I am, god forbid I have developed a formula - it's music; songwriting. ' It's heretic, honestly, in the church of music, so I had to unwind a few tricks in order to get past it.
I grew up listening to the quartets and I loved that so much that I wanted to see if I could make music and make it happen. It was just a series of events. . . me going to concerts and saying "I think I can do that".
In the past, the respect people had for religion meant that ethical practice was maintained through a majority following one religion or another. But this is no longer the case. We must therefore find some other way of establishing basic ethical principles.
Trump is a businessman, but he is such a creature of the entertainment world. It feels that the entertainment industry is more entwined with politics than ever before. I just think he is who he is. You can't blame him for being who he is. He's always been like that. He's our fault - that's how I see it. We let him come to where he is. I'm not so interested in blaming him; that's being done enough by others. I'm more interested in: How did this happen?
