Since I started as a comic person then became a musician to me it was interesting because I have this really great, interesting fanbase that's really smart and energetic and uh how could I steer them towards a medium that shaped who I was? You know, steer them toward comics. That was really the goal, to bring a lot of readers cuz they were reading a lot of comics but most of them hadn't been reading American comics, they'd be reading manga sitting on the floor of a Barnes and Noble.
We wouldn't be so naive to say something like "feel any competition with Coldplay. " All we can do is come out and gig, and we have a really good loyal fanbase, people really "get" the band, and that's all we can do.
I'm consciously aware, specifically with the comic book world, where there's a built-in fanbase. But, there's a little bit of leniency because there are a couple different universes.
I'll say about Fueled By Ramen is, I don't know what anyone else's experience has been, but we signed to them as Fun. We already had a fanbase, we already had music out there so when they signed us they were signing our vision. I always think it's so weird when people think that Fueled By Raman are trying to change us or mould us into something else, as we weren't a bunch of kids playing in a garage who joined a label and then collectively worked on a vision, like, they signed us with the intention of letting us be Fun.
The WWE has a massive outreach on social media, and our fanbase is very vocal. So many young people watch the WWE, and I can turn around and say: "This also happens to me. Daily. " I've been regarded as a very "controversial" figure, but in a setting like this, where I talk to young people, it helps.
It is so cool to have a fanbase that has been so involved since the casting process.
If we could sell 100,000 units every album, that would rock. We'd have a big cult following, we'd have a built-in fanbase so we could pretty much play anywhere, people would show up and rock out
I see a lot of people of color in my fanbase and at all my shows, and it's really awesome.
